  • I believe most "poor" people live in urban environments where they may not even own a car, if someone makes enough money to own a gas guzzling SUV and drive from the suburbs to work every day they should probably take the majority of the tax burden.

  • Anyone surprised? I think what the US federal government means when they say "It'll be too expensive" is that it'll be too expensive for those who currently receive large sums of money by selling coal and oil, because essentially they will be rendered obsolete.

  • If anything it should be the other way around, as the gallons go up the taxes go up. Why should the hummer pay more taxes you ask? I dunno, maybe because they weigh as much as a damn tank.

  • Why not just raise the gasoline tax? While I hate raising taxes and feel that most states have more than enough money to maintain the road system (if they would just use it properly), raising the gas tax would enocourage more drivers to buy fuel efficient vehicles.
